Lusory attitude
Also said as Accepting the rules
Agreeing to a game's rules because they make the game possible, though there are easier ways to reach the goal. Bernard Suits defined playing a game as "the voluntary attempt to overcome unnecessary obstacles".
It says what cheating really takes away. A player who skips the obstacle reaches the goal and has not played, which is why auto-win codes get boring so quickly.
Say it
“Do not punish players who ignore the speedrun route. Add a pure mode with no map markers, and let the people who want a harder game choose it themselves.”
Where you’ve seen it
A Nuzlocke run of Pokémon adds hard rules that the game does not enforce, such as treating a fainted Pokémon as dead. Nothing makes players keep to them, and that is the whole point.
Not to be confused with magic circle
The magic circle is the boundary around the game. The lusory attitude is the player's own willingness to step inside and stay there.
