Musical feedback
Also said as Rising pitch, Combo pitch, Scale on hits
Playing the sounds of repeated actions as notes, often climbing a scale as a combo grows. The action becomes a tune, and the player can hear how well it is going.
It carries a count without a number on screen, and each rising note makes you want the next one. Using a real scale keeps it pleasant however long the chain runs.
Say it
“Each pickup in a chain plays the next note of A minor pentatonic, starting from A4. Reset after one second without a pickup, and top out after 12 notes.”
Where you’ve seen it
Peggle raises the pitch of its peg sound with each peg a shot hits, so you can hear a good shot building. In Peggle 2 and Peggle Blast, Guy Whitmore tied those notes to the harmony of the music playing underneath.
Not to be confused with pitch randomisation
Random pitch hides repetition, and means nothing. Rising pitch is a signal: the higher it is, the better you are doing.
