Platform snapping
Also said as Vertical camera lock, Ground anchoring
The camera follows up and down only when the player lands on something, not during every jump.
If the camera rises with every jump, the ground bounces under the player and they lose their reference for judging the landing.
Say it
“Vertically, keep the camera still during jumps. Move it only when the player lands on a new height, easing over a third of a second.”
Where you’ve seen it
Super Mario World does this: the view holds steady through a jump and moves up only once Mario lands on a higher platform.
Not to be confused with dead zone
A dead zone ignores movement inside a box. Platform snapping ignores vertical movement until a landing, whatever its size.
