Extraction shooter
Also said as Extraction game, Tarkov-like
You enter a dangerous map with your gear, grab what you can, and must reach an exit alive. If you die, you lose it all. It promises a fear that no other shooter gives you: having something to lose.
Every crate asks whether to stay or leave. This is loss aversion built into a loop, which makes the walk to the exit more frightening than any fight.
Say it
“Extraction rules: 30-minute raids, two exits that open at set times, and everything you carry is lost on death. The best loot sits furthest from the exits, and more enemies arrive the longer you stay.”
Where you’ve seen it
Escape from Tarkov, by Battlestate Games, entered beta in 2017 and made the form famous. What you carry into a raid is lost if you die, apart from a small secure container, so a player with a full bag often stops fighting and starts running.
Not to be confused with battle royale
In a battle royale you only win by being the last one standing. In an extraction game you can win without firing a shot, by getting out with your bag.
