Accessibility options

Also said as Assist mode, Assist options, Difficulty options

Settings that let more people play: for vision, hearing, movement and how fast you can think or react. The good ones change one specific barrier and leave the rest of the game as it is.

One wall stops a person who could happily play everything else, and it is usually cheap to remove. The extra options cost you nothing with those who don't use them, and you gain every player who couldn't have played otherwise.

“Add a game speed setting from 50 to 100% in steps of 10, separate from difficulty, and don't lock any achievements behind turning it off.”

Celeste's Assist Mode lets you slow the game to as low as 50%, give yourself infinite stamina and extra dashes, or turn on invincibility, and the screen recommends playing without it first, then offers it anyway. The Last of Us Part II has more than 60 accessibility settings.

Easy mode changes the game for you as a single bundle. Accessibility options let you take down the specific wall that's in your way, and keep the rest of the challenge.
