UI scale
Also said as HUD scale, Text size, Ten-foot UI
How big the interface is drawn, and usually a setting that lets players change it. What matters is how large it looks from where they sit, which depends on the screen's size and their distance from it.
A game built on a monitor at arm's length will be played on a TV across a room, and on a handheld with a much smaller screen. Text that can't be read is a game that can't be played.
Say it
“Set body text to 32 px at 1080p and offer a 150% UI scale in settings. Test it on a 55 inch TV from three metres before we call it done.”
Where you’ve seen it
Dead Rising set its text so small that people on standard-definition TVs struggled to read its missions at all. The Last of Us Part II offers a HUD scale setting, Default or Large.
Not to be confused with resolution
Resolution is how many pixels there are. UI scale is how many of them each letter uses. A sharper picture with the same small letters is still hard to read from a sofa.
